PWD initiates two-lane work

The Public Works Department (PWD) has initiated due process to develop the 40 Kms long road from near Mount Everest College, Senapati to Leishon Bridge, Ukhrul as a two-lane road.
Notably, Leishon Bridge is constructed over Iril River.
Sources said that the road connecting Senapati (Mount Everest College) to Ukhrul (Leishon Bridge) would be a big transport asset for many people as it would be further connected to Sanakeithel, Mahadev and then Imphal.
The 40 Kms long road is divided into three sections viz; Mount Everest College to Ngaton (Ukhrul)-17 Kms, Ngaton to Khamasom-16 Kms and Khamasom to Leishon Bridge-8 Kms.
For construction of the particular road as a two-lane road, an amount of Rs 81 crore has been sanctioned from the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), said the sources.
Development of the road would entail cutting of hill slides for about 25 Kms.
It would also have a culvert and a bailey bridge.
Due survey for the road development work has been already completed and the department has been working to complete other necessary processes to start the road construction work as soon as possible, according to the sources.
