Imphal, April 12 2022:
One inmate of a children home located at Ukhrul was severely thrashed by senior inmates and the warden of the home.
Even as the victim was somehow brought out of the home and a complaint was filed with police, no action has been taken up yet.
Speaking to media persons at Adimjati Shiksha Ashram, Chingmeirong this afternoon, BJP Ukhrul District ST Morcha vice-president Liah Mahung said that a young boy was severely thrashed by senior inmates of Destitute Children Home located at Alungtang, Ukhrul district headquarters in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday last.
The NGO is run by an NGO named Ningrin Club.
Even as the victim boy cried and pleaded for forgiveness, the senior inmates paid no heed.
Moreover, the warden again assaulted the boy on Sunday morning without asking any question.
As a result, the boy could not join the Palm Sunday festival, Liah Mahung said.
The incident came to light only after the boy was brought out of the children home, she said.
She asserted that the bruises seen on the boy's body proved how mercilessly he was thrashed.
Expressing strong suspicion that the Destitute Children Home might have witnessed many such incidents in the past, Liah Mahung said that the young victim had been staying at the home for over five years.
Such ill treatment meted out to the hapless boy was something never expected, said the BJP Ukhrul District ST Morcha vice-president.
She then appealed to the Government authority concerned to take up befitting action against all those people who have been running the children home.
Even though a complaint was lodged with Ukhrul District Police yesterday, no action has been initiated yet, she decried.
The boy has been brought to Imphal for treatment as he is suffering from anxiety and fear psychosis, Liah Mahung said.
She also expressed keen desire for the relevant Government authority to give a shelter to the boy.
