Be prepared for a decisive thrust : Lup

Imphal, August 11 2009: The Working Committee of the Apunba Lup has called upon the people of Manipur to be prepared to give a decisive thrust to Chief Minister Okram Ibobi at the first available opportunity.

Lauding the Governor for his assurance to put into action the points of the memorandum, the Apunba Lup exuded confidence that the Governor would fulfil his assurance without delay in the interest of the people of Manipur.

The memorandum was submitted today by some representatives of the Apunba Lup.

A statement issued by the Apunba Lup exhorted that the people should not be deterred by the State Government's heavy-handed tactics of imposing curfew, deployment of countless security personnel, imprisonment of protesters, detention under NSA, brutal assault on protesters etc.

Rather the people must be prepared to go for the coup de grace as and when Chief Minister let his guard down and relaxes a bit.

This is necessary to save 'our future generations, brothers and sisters, husbands and wives' from the hands of 'Ibobi's killers'.

Although Chief Minister O Ibobi and his commandos succeeded in preventing the people of Manipur and activists of the Apunba Lup from submitting a memorandum to the Governor, some Meira Paibis of the Apunba Lup have submitted the memorandum to the Governor today.

However, as the demands of the people and the Apunba Lup have not been fulfilled, the ongoing civil movement would continue.

It also called upon all the people to continue with the ongoing democratic movement with all their strength until the people's common demands are fulfilled.

Lauding the Governor for his assurance to put into action the points of the memorandum, the Apunba Lup exuded that the Governor would fulfil his assurance without delay in the interest of the people of Manipur.

However, the Apunba Lup decried the derogatory remarks and indecent words used by police personnel against women agitators.

Taking serious note of the Government's callous attitude despite the huge public outcry and massive civil movements, the Apunba Lup noted that it's time for the people to take a fitting, reciprocal resolution.

While urging upon the MLAs and Ministers supporting Ibobi to disclose their stand to the public, the Apunba Lup asked the Congress party to take up necessary steps immediately to replace Ibobi.

After central forces, police commandos have been killing many innocent civilians on daily basis with approval of the ruling Government.

The state has been tacitly supporting the killings is proven by the fact that no police commandos have been given punishment against all the case of fake encounters till date, the Apunba Lup alleged.

Although India is said to be a democratic country, the people of Manipur are not entitled to the most fundamental right, the right to life.

As such, Manipur is under dictatorship or a fascist regime, it asserted.

Stating that the acts of human rights violation/state terrorism are against international human rights norms/laws and constitution of India, the Apunba Lup cautioned there is no reason not to take the issue to International Criminal Court in case the alleged war crimes/genocide continue any longer.
