Daughter of slain parents decry justice delay

Imphal, May 11 2013 : "Even as a complain was lodged with the police for the arrest of culprits involved in the killing of my parents and burning down of our house, no tangible action has been taken up so far," la-mented the daughter of the late Nursana and Majibullah who were killed by a mob in 2011 .

Accused of involvement in the killing of member of Pal-lel Zilla Parishad, Md Saha- buddin (54) of Sora Keithel Maning, Nursana and Maji-bullah were lynched by an angry mob at Sora village on April 1, 2011 .

Besides killing them, their house at Sora Awang Leikai was completely burned down.

The youngest child of the fa-mily, who was trapped inside the house, was saved from the fire.

Strongly denouncing the brutal act, the three children of Nursana and Majibullah have categorically denied the involvement of their parents in the killing of the Zilla Parishad member.

Contending that some adversaries who had ill-will against their parents over petty personal matter misled the public of Sora, the slain couples' children had lodged a complain with Kakching PS demanding immediate arrest and fitting punishment to the culprits involved in the killing of their parents and burning down their house.

The children had been staying at the residence of their maternal grandparents at Wangkhem after they lost their parents as well as their house in the tragic incident.

Interacting with The Sangai Express, the eldest daughter of couple, Mozma said that they have nothing of their own as their parents were killed and their house reduced to cinders by the mob.

"Even though our parents had saved some money for us and insured themselves with LIC, we could neither withdraw the amount nor claim the premium as all the documents including the bank account perished with our house," said Mozma while adding that no assistance has been provided to them by the Government.

Nothing has been left for them as all their belongings including jewellery items were burnt down with the house, she said.

"We were left at the mercy of our aunts and grandparents," she pensively said.

"We seek justice through the police and lawyers, but no progress has been made towards this end though they accept money from us," she helplessly said.

The post mortem reports of Nursana and Majibullah were not made available to the family till date.

Significantly, her aunt (mother's sister) has put Mozma in a boarding school.

She is reading in Class X this year.

Haunted by the tragic lost of her parents, the burning down of their house and the police slackness in pursuing the case, Mozma has begun to develop mental illness of late.

There have been incidents when Mozma left the boarding in a fit of illness when the lost of her parents came across her mind.

Even though her mother had wanted her to become an advocate, the changing behaviour of Mozma is a cause of worry for her aunt, who fostered her.

Demanding justice, the aunt of Mozma also urged the authority concerned to expedite the process of justice so that they get mental peace.
