Rahul reaches out to internally displaced people at different centres

Imphal, July 08 2024:
Rahul Gandhi who arrived today met internally displaced people of both Meitei and Kuki communities in camps today.
Rahul Gandhi reached Assam's Silchar from Delhi at around 10 am today and was warmly received by State CLP leader Okram Ibobi, MPCC president MLA K Meghachandra and former Deputy CM Gaikhangam.
From Silchar, Rahul reached Jiribam at around 11 am amid a rousing welcome by people on the road.
In Jiribam, Rahul visited the relief camp opened at Jiribam Higher Secondary School and met with internally displaced people.
At the camp, he interacted with the inmates for around 20 minutes.
While he enquired about the grievances of the people, the inmates submitted a memorandum to him to address the conflict and restore peace.
While urging the Opposition leader to voice their grievances to the Government, the inmates expressed that they want their homes reconstructed and return to their villages.
Hearing the grievances of the displaced people, Rahul Gandhi assured that he would give them a voice in the Parliament and raise the issues mentioned in the memorandum.
He said steps would be taken up to ensure the return of the people to their villages and homes.
After the meeting, Rahul returned to Silchar airport.
On the way, he visited a relief camp at Assam's Fulertal where displaced Kuki people from Jiribam and Pherzawl are staying.
From Silchar Airport, Rahul Gandhi boarded a special flight and arrived at Bir Tikendrajit Airport at around 1.20 pm.
At the Imphal airport, he was warmly welcomed by the people.
From the airport, Rahul Gandhi and several Congress leaders including Outer Manipur MP Alfred Kanngam S Arthur departed for Churachandpur by road.
At Churachandpur, he met with inmates at Tuibong relief camp.
The inmates and members of several Kuki organisations presented him with gifts and memoranda.
From Churachandpur, Rahul Gandhi returned towards Imphal.
People in large numbers stood along the roadsides with placards and welcomed him in Bishnupur.
At Bishnupur, he met and interacted with displaced people staying at Phubala High School relief camp.
MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, Deputy CLP leader K Ranjit, MPCC president K Meghachandra and MLA Th Lokeshwar were present at the relief camp.
The inmates of the relief camp submitted a memorandum to Rahul Gandhi.
He interacted with the inmates and assured them of actions to address their grievances.
Later, Rahul Gandhi arrived at Raj Bhavan and met Governor Anusuiya Uikey on the Manipur issue.
During the meeting with the Governor, Rahul Gandhi was accompanied by MP Dr Bimol Akoijam, CLP leader Okram Ibobi and other Congress leaders.
After the meeting, Rahul Gandhi addressed a press conference at Congress Bhavan and briefed the media about his visits to the relief camps today.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi was scheduled to leave Imphal for Uttar Pradesh, but there has been a change in the schedule, and he is staying the night in Imphal.
He will stay at Imphal Hotel and leave for UP tomorrow morning.
