Imphal, May 08 2025:
In a heart-warming gesture of solidarity, Support for Myanmar (Meitei) Earthquake Victims, a group of different organisations and individuals, has donated Rs 11,52,000 to aid Meiteis in Myanmar affected by the devastating March 28, 2025, earthquake.
The aid was extended through Dharma Vidya Samprada today.
It is reported that the earthquake destroyed 28 homes of Meitei families across 14 villages in Myanmar, damaged 86 others, and caused significant destruction to six community temples and 49 private temples.
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club, Haorokcham Anil, secretary of Manipur Chamber of Commerce and Industries, said that the initiative to aid the Manipuris affected by the earthquake was taken up through a collaboration of the Indo-Myanmar Association, Manipur Chamber of Commerce and Industries, and various philanthropic individuals.
He said that the group collected donations from Meiteis living across Manipur and beyond.
Saying that they launched their donation campaign by uploading a video clip on social media, sharing a bank account number to facilitate contributions, Anil noted that media houses in Manipur further supported the cause by publishing a donation advertisement free of charge.
He also thanked Manipur's YouTubers and social media users for sharing the video clip.
Further stating that they collected over Rs 11,50,000 during the donation campaign (April 6 to 26), he thanked all the donors for their overwhelming support.
Anil said that Global Manipuri Foundation made a significant donation to the earthquake relief efforts for the Meiteis in Myanmar.
Humbly describing the donation as a "pinch of salt in an ocean," he expressed joy in being able to offer support and convey a sense of solidarity to the Meiteis in the neighbouring country.
He said that they will announce the name of the donors along with the amount they contributed.
