Imphal, November 07 2010: An advance team of Special Protection Group (SPG) would be arriving here tomorrow to check security cover for AICC president and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi who would be visiting the State on November 12 .

On the other hand, many organisations are not happy with naming of the newly constructed market complexes reportedly named without public consultation.

According to information received from the Home Department, an advance security team of NSG would be arriving here tomorrow ahead of Sonia Gandhi's scheduled visit.

Official letters relating to Sonia Gandhi's visit have also been received.

The UPA Chairperson may be accompanied by Union Tourism Minister Selja.

Meanwhile, the State Government has been undertaking Imphal beautification works on war-footing.

However, 12 different civil organisations have raised strong objections against naming of the market complexes reportedly named by the Government without consulting the public.

Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, they urged upon the Government not to omit the word "Ima" from the names of these three market complexes.

The press meet was attended by representatives of All Manipur Women's Reformation and Development Samaj, Kangleichal, All Manipur Student Guardians' Organisation, Kanglamei, MEELAL, HERICOUN, IPSA, ACOAM Lup, FREINDS, Young Horizon, WACAK, and Chingtam Chaokhat Thoudang Nupi Lup.

General secretary of All Manipur Women's Reformation and Development Samaj, Thokchom (O) Ramani said the Govt should have considered the matter of naming the market complexes in the State Assembly so as to reflect history of the land instead of naming them in haste.

"Ima Keithel is known at the international level.

What is the Government's logic of naming it Nupi Keithel ? The market complexes should be named after consultation with the public", Ramani asserted.

President of the Women Association for Civic Action Kangleipak, S Ibetombi demanded that names of the three market complexes should be engraved first in Meitei Mayek followed by Roman script.

RK Tharaksana of the Chingtam Chaokhat Thoudang Lup expressed strong reservation against installing idols of Garura and Ganesh instead of the local market deity.

FREINDS advisor H Kulla said that the markets should be named after studying the cultural, historical and legal perspectives in consonance with the tradition of the land.
