Cong party undaunted by poll defeat, says Ibobi

Imphal, April 06 2022: A felicitation ceremony in honour of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee's (MPCC) new president MLA K Meghachandra was held today in the presence of senior Congress leaders and office bearers at BT Road.

At the function, former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi stated that it is natural for every political party to witness both success and challenges in its journey.

While lauding all the candidates who contested the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election on Congress tickets and the supporters for putting their faith in the party, Ibobi maintained that the Congress party is not disheartened even a bit by the defeat in the recent election as it was never free and fair.

He further stated that the Congress party was quite confident of winning the election as the party fought the election in a life and death situation in the larger interest of the people though the outcome could never be predicted.

Claiming that unethical means were used in remote places such as Moreh and Chandel, among others by a particular party to win the election by hook or crook, Ibobi alleged that even the family members of former Congress MLA Gaikhangam were denied the right to exercise their democratic rights.

"None can take away the love of motherland from the Congress party even in its difficult phase," Ibobi said and added that it is truly an honour to have the privilege to represent the grand old party.

Continuing that the political landscape in India might take a big turn in 2024, Ibobi stated that those who left the Congress party in the run up to the 12th Assembly elections are all opportunists.

CWC Member Gaikhangam said that the recent defeat in the 12th Assembly election is not the end of the Congress party but beginning of a new chapter in its electoral politics.

Saying that Congress will always remain an influential party even if some of its members have joined other parties, Gaikhangam stated that the grand old party will surely rise to power again with due support of the people.

The CWC Member further claimed that the BJP didn't win the election on its own but by using underground elements.
