World Environment Day celebrated all over

Bpr/Kak/Non/Phz/Spi/Tpl/Thb/Ukl, June 05 2022: As observed across the globe, World Environment Day was also celebrated in the state today under the theme, "Only One Earth" to raise awareness about degrading environmental conditions and encourage people to take positive actions, to help create a better future.

Bishnupur
Bishnupur Forest Division on Sunday observed World Environment Day by organising a mass plantation drive at Maibam Lotpa Chingning Awang Leikai in Nambol.

Deputy Commissioner Bishnupur, Lourembam Bikram; SP Bishnupur, N Herojit Meitei; Divisional Forest Officer Bishnupur, Dr Rebika Soibam Chanu; village elders, youths, students, District Forest officials and staff took part in the plantation drive.

Speaking on the occasion, Lourembam Bikram stressed that the goal of conservation is to regulate the natural resources in a sustainable manner.

"The biodiversity of Loktak Lake must be maintained by way of not polluting our rivers and lake" said the DC while urging the people to develop a sense of ownership towards protection of the environment which encompasses a wide gamut of forests, rivers, lakes, wildlife, flora and fauna.

It may be mentioned that during the inauguration of the plantation drive, the customary candle lighting was replaced with an innovative watering of plants.

Dr Rebika Soibam Chanu hailed the symbolic substitution as a mark of contribution towards reduction of carbon footprints.

Kakching
World Environment Day was observed in different police stations and outposts of Kakching Police on Sunday.

Activities like mass tree plantation, cleaning police station and outpost premises, awareness rallies in coordination with various Youth Clubs, CSOs, Municipality, etc were carried out.

Volunteers from Wabagai Bazaar Board, Sugnu Municipality, Sugnu Youth Clubs, SAL, KSO Gunpi, KhSO, Zillai, ZYO, etc took part in the mass plantation and cleanliness drive.

Moreover, Alliance For Development Alternative Manipur (ADAM) in association with the Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, Manipur and ENVIS Hub Manipur also observed World Environment Day at Angaan Ching Eco Park, Kakching.

During the programme, ADAM also conferred the 6th ADAM Environment Award 2022 to Elangbam Valentina, Brand Ambassador of Chief Minister Green Manipur Mission.

Similarly, Kha Manipur College Kakching in association with Sahitya Seva Samiti Kakching, Sahitya Thoupang Lup Imphal, Macha Chanu Kakching and Library & Information Centre Kakching also observed World Environment Day at its campus.

In the afternoon session, a symposium was held at Angaan Ching Eco Park Kakching wherein Sahitya Thoupang Lup conferred the Ningombam Pheiraba Award 2022 to Surjit Kshetrimayum, secretary ADAM Kakching.

World Environment Day was also observed by Pole Star college Hiyanglam-Wabagai, NSS unit 1 & 2 and members of Kakching High School -1984 Matric Batch.

Noney
Subash Chabdra Bose Awasiya Vidalaya, Rengpang in association with Noney Forest Division and Longmai Nature Club also observed World Environment Day at Noney.

The programme was attended by Napolean Rongmei, Divisional Forest Officer, Noney Forest Division; Thansinlung Gangmei, head teacher NSCBAV; Gaisuakmei Gonmei, Range Forest Officer, Noney Forest Division; and Ezekial Dangmei, president Longmai Nature Club.

Tree saplings were also planted at the school campus to commemorate the day.

Similar plantation drives were also held at Kambiron (Puiluan) and Apinjang (Nungleiband) under Noney Forest Division.

Pherzawl
In line with the observance of World Environment Day, Pherzawl Forest Division under the aegis of District Administration Pherzawl organised mass plantation drives at its Camp Office and across the district with active involvement of SP, CMO Staffs and other DLOs.

Speaking on the occasion, Th Autumn, DFO Pherzawl stated that shifting cultivation in steep hill slopes of the region have resulted in landslides, ecological imbalance and soil erosion.

There is a need of carrying out mass tree plantation on either side of Churachandpur-Tipaimukh Road, as vegetation cover will prevent occurrence of landslides, added the DFO.

Deputy Commissioner Pherzawl, Joseph Pauline Kamson also took part in the mass plantation drive.

Senapati
Maram Battalion under Jwalamukhi Sector also observed World Environment Day by carrying out a mega tree plantation drive at Battalion HQ Maram and all Company locations from Mao gate to Senapati DHQ. During the mega plantation drive, the unit planted about 11,000 saplings in the area.

The celebration was also carried out at Assam Rifles Public School, Maram.

Later, a 5 km run around Maram Khullen village was conducted to spread the message of "Only one Earth" .

Similarly, the National Service Scheme of Don Bosco College (Autonomous) Maram under the supervision of John Britto and Sr Ethel Sochanphi, FMA, Program Officers also observed World Environment Day by carrying out a tree plantation drive.

During the drive, Dr Fr KO Sebastian, SDB, Principal of the College; Sr Cecilia Thaimei, FMA, vice principal and NSS volunteers planted about 100 saplings in and around the college campus.

Tengnoupal
As part of the 8 Years Seva Sushasan Garib Kalyan, ST Morcha BJP Manipur Pradesh also celebrated World Environment Day by carrying out a tree plantation drive at J Songpijang village in Moreh.

It was participated by ST Morcha BJP Manipur Pradesh vice president, J Khongsai and members of his election committee.

Thoubal
On the occasion of World Environment Day, Thoubal Forest Division in coordination with various organisations organised mass tree plantation in different parts of the district today.

Thoubal Forest Division along with RUDA Academy Thoubal organised mass tree plantation at Samu Manbi Ching Thoubal Khunou.

It was attended by DFO Thoubal, Th Lokendro; Range Officer, Sh Shamungou and Deputy RO, L Dhananjoy among others.

Similar programmes were held at Lemba Khun and Inganglok.

Moreover, PHED Thoubal also organised a mass tree plantation at Khongjom War Memorial Complex.

NYK Thoubal in collaboration with Youth Circle Moijing and YEDS Moijing also observed World Environment Day by conducting tree plantation and cleanliness activities at Idgah Park Moijing.

It was participated by Abdul Warish, Pradhan Moijing GP and Konsam Lokendro Singh, DACYP Member NYK Thoubal.

NYK also conducted similar programmes at Salungpham in association with Salungpham Youth Association & KK Academy; and at Lamding village with the assistance of SACA Club.

Likewise, District Legal Services Authority Thoubal in collaboration with Thoubal District Bar Association also observed World Environment Day at District & Sessions Court complex, Thoubal in Khangabok.

As part of the observance, a cleanliness & tree plantation drive was also conducted wherein members of Thoubal District Bar, PLVs under DLSA Thoubal, Court staff and security personnel stationed within the Court complex planted about 20 saplings.

Ukhrul
The 65th Manipur NCC Girls Bn, St Joseph college Unit, Ukhrul in collaboration with the District Forest Department also celebrated World Environment Day by organising a plantation drive at the college campus.

About 60 NCC women cadets; principal, vice principal and lecturers of the college; and DFO Ukhrul, Shanngam Shailwo took part in the plantation drive held at St Joseph College Alungtang, Ukhrul.

It may be mentioned that World Environment Day was also observed in different Churches of Ukhrul town on Sunday as "Green Day" .
