Imphal, October 04 2009: Stating that some 2/3 departments of Manipur University have been conducting classes secretly, the AMSU, MSF and KSA have called for an immediate halt to conducting secret classes.

In case the secretive classes continue, teachers and students of the particular departments should own responsibility for any action initiated against them, the three student bodies cautioned in a joint press release.

The places where secret classes are being conducted would not be taken as a place of learning nor the teachers and students attending such classes would be viewed as what they are.

As such, there would be no restraint in taking up befitting actions against the odd teachers and classes.

The three student bodies also demanded immediate suspension of MU bus service.

Conducting and attending classes by some teachers and students of 2/3 departments of MU is shameful, particularly, when junior students have stayed away from their schools and colleges supporting the people's movement.

The AMSU, MSF and KSA would boycott the MU Student Meet as well as Inter-College Sports Meet scheduled to be held from October 12 to 18 .

Stringent actions would be initiated against students and colleges which commit the blunder of participating in the students' meet and the sports meet.

Regardless of whether they are students, teachers or officials, any one defying the prohibition would be viewed as supporters of security forces in killing innocent people.

In addition to overt attempts by the Government to suppress the people's movement by assaulting protesters by rubber bullets, tear gas shells etc and arresting them, the Govt has been taking recourse to several covert means.

Distribution of certain materials to some people and participation of Government representatives in student related functions are part of the Government's ploy to drive a wedge among the student community and the people.

By inviting only students of Government schools to the recently concluded School Meet 2009, the Government was attempting to create a fissure among the students.

The function gave a rare opportunity to Chief Minister Okram Ibobi to lash out against the students actively involved in the ongoing movement as well as to project that the students of all districts still support him and his Government.

It also enabled him hoodwink the central leaders by telling that the students protesting against his governance was a small section of the student community who were acting under instruction of insurgent groups.

Maintaining that the ongoing people's movement may get intensified all of a sudden any time, the student bodies said that all the students should remain prepared for such decisive moment and they need not waste their time and strength on sports events which can be skipped.
