Irabot stood firmly and resisted the Government of India's attempt to create Purvanchal Pradesh after merging Manipur with parts of some other States.
Had Purvanchal Pradesh been created, Manipur would have ceased to exist, Dr Nara said.
Irabot Celebration Committee secretary comrade M Joykumar said that the life and works of Hijam Irabot will be re-visited during the Irabot Month.
He said that the younger generations must be informed about Hijam Irabot's aspirations and visions and they must follow the footsteps of the great leader.
Hijam Irabot was born on September 30 and he died at Tangbo, Burma on September 26 .
In the course of his struggle to protect the integrity of Manipur and its territorial boundary, Irabot went underground on September 21 .
So the month of September is closely associated with the life of Hijam Irabot, Joykumar said.
CPI MSC former secretary comrade Laishram Sotinkumar spoke on the topic, "Irabot's contributions in protecting the integrity of Manipur" .
Manipur Loumi Lup secretary comrade H Ibobi too attended the function.
