Bring back Oken for peace : Ibobi

Thoubal, February 28 2022: Former Chief Minister O Ibobi has asserted that Heirok Assembly Constituency has become the centre of all poll related violence, as the people elected the wrong candidate in the last Assembly election.

Heirok AC will go to polls on MArch 5, the second phase of the election.

Addressing a one day political conference of Congress candidate in Heirok AC, M Okendro at Lilakambong ground in Nongpok Sekmai yesterday, the former Chief Minister who is also the CLP leader said that the present MLA might have been elected in 2017 with the people pinning their hopes on seeing some positive changes.

However the expectations of the people have been hit hard, said Ibobi and added that it is important for the people to bring back Okendra to ensure peace and harmony in the area.

In a democracy the people are the masters and they are to decide the fate of the AC every five year and the time has come for the people to exercise their democratic right and elect the right candidate, he added.

'Let's uproot BJP ', said the former Chief Minister.

Ibobi added that since the Central and State BJP leaders have realised that the people have lost faith in the BJP they have been trying to woo the voters with the Prime Minister, Home Minister and other Cabinet Ministers coming to the State to campaign for their candidates.

During Congress rule, whenever Central leaders visit, they come with a number of schemes and funds meant for the welfare of the people.

He also questioned what the BJP leaders who have been frequenting the State have done for the people.

Speaking at the event organised by Heirok Block Congress Committee, M Okendro assured that if the people elect him, he will make urea available to the farmers of the AC at Rs 100/bag.This, he added, has been decided keeping in mind the difficulties faced by the farmers of Heirok AC during COVID-19 pandemic where the BJP Government had done nothing when urea was sold at Rs 1200/bag.M Okendro alleged that the current BJP MLA has abandoned water supply projects taken up during Congress rule, let alone take up any new water supply projects to provide clean drinking water to the people of Heirok AC.

Solar powered ground water harvesting projects will be taken up in Heirok AC to provide clean drinking water 24x7, he added.

He also accused the current MLA of demolishing the CHC Heirok building which was constructed during Congress rule on grounds of not maintaining quality which has left the AC without proper medical facilities.

M Okendro assured the people of AC that he will construct a 4 storeyed hospital building for the people of Heirok and promised to upgrade PHC Nongpok Sekmai to a 50 bedded CHC.

The Heirok-Ningel stretch of road (previously known as Wangjing-Ningel) will be blacktopped within 3 months if he wins the election, he added.

One mini-stadium each will be constructed at Nongpok Sekmai and Heirok and playgrounds at all the villages will be developed to motivate the youths to stay healthy.

He also reiterated the various works taken up by Moirangthem Ibotombi Memorial Trust for the welfare of the people including monthly pension to senior citizens of the AC.

The programme was also attended by Jairam Ramesh, election observer AICC; AICC Manipur in-charge Bhakta Charan Das amongst others.
