Stranded TTs head to Imphal-Jiribam highway

Imphal, July 14 2018: Around 104 loaded bullet LPG TTs which were stranded at Khatkhatti, Assam for the past many days after a 100 metre long section of Imphal-Dimapur highway sank near Kohima left Khatkhatti for Imphal-Jiribam highway this evening.

A high level meeting of CRPF and IOCL was held today at the office of IG (Ops) and the meeting decided to take Imphal-Jiribam highway temporarily for transportation of LPG and POL until the sunken portion of Imphal-Dimapur highway is restored.

In accordance to the same decision, a convoy of empty POL and LPG TTs would leave for Jiribam from Keithelmanbi at 9 am tomorrow with CRPF escorts.

The CRPF escorts would take the loaded LPG bullet TTs which left Khatkhatti this evening from Jiribam to Imphal on July 17.However, no such arrangement has been made so far for loaded POL TTs currently stranded at Khatkhatti, informed a source.

Loaded LPG TTs are being given priority as Sekmai LPG bottling plant has already ceased all its normal activities and LPG distributors have stopped distributing LPG to consumers.

To assist movement of CRPF-escorted convoy of POL and LPG TTs from Keithelmanbi tomorrow morning, one official of IOCL would be stationed there, said the source.

In the same manner, another IOCL official would be stationed at Jiribam on July 17 for coordination with CRPF who would bring back loaded LPG bullet TTs to Imphal.

Meanwhile, NHIDCL would keep a close watch on Barak bridge and Makru bridge to see that nothing untoward happens when CRPF-escorted convoys of POL and LPG TTs move on Imphal-Jiribam highway.

An excavator would be kept on stand-by..
