Imphal, January 04 2015:
People for Animals Manipur, with the approval of the State Govt, relocated an Asian Forest Tortoise, a Bengal Slow Loris and a Pit viper at Yangoupokpi Lokchao Wildlife sanctuary of Tengnoupal on December 30 last.
Seven volunteers tracked about 2 kms deep into the jungle from the highway to relocate the animals, according to a statement issued by the PFA.
Since it was already dark when the exhausted volunteers reached the highway back after relocating the animals, the PFA team decided to spend the night at Moreh.
Sadly, the PFA team was detained by the 24 AR at Khudengthabi check-post much against the expectation of the PFA team.
Their plead to meet the higher officers of the AR unit was not heeded, it alleged.
Later the PFA informed the matter to the SP, Chandel and SDPO, Moreh who in turn requested the officials of the AR to let them continue their journey.
The team reached Moreh at about 8 pm.
The PFA also expressed regret over the detention of its team by the AR at Khudengthabi check-post.
