Imphal, September 01:
The state Lok Sabha MP from Outer Manipur, Holkhomang Haokip, has urged the Central government to properly develop National Highway 150, which connects Jessami in Manipur on the Nagaland border, and Aizawl in Mizoram via Imphal to serve as the third lifeline of the state, especially in view of the frequent disturbances on the other two national highways.
Holkhomang Haokip, who spoke on the subject in the Lok Sabha yesterday, maintained that NH-150 is more free, peaceful and safe with regard to transportation of goods as well as passenger traffic as compared to the other highways.
Speaking in Manipuri, Holkhomang noted that he road blockades that were imposed on NH-39 and 53 have not only affected the states economy but had totally cut off the state from the rest of the country, causing complete non-availability of all items of essential commodities in Manipur.
Stating that the portion between Aizawl and Imphal is completely peaceful and free from danger of blockades, Holkhomang urged the Central government to make necessary steps to improve this highway, particularly the Manipur portion of Thanlon to Tipaimukh, to ensure smooth movement of vehicles.
