661 gm heroin, 7.52 kg opium seized; five held

A team of Kakching district police seized 661 gram of suspected Heroin and arrested two individuals from Leimanai Chingjin CDO check-post on Tuesday.
Speaking to the media at his office, Kakching SP Shrey Vats informed that the drug consignment was recovered from a numberless Maruti Gypsy coming from Pallel side at the check-post by a police team led by HC Starson Tarao and HC L Rohit Singh under the command of Cdo Kakching officer in-charge inspector Md Abash Khan, supervision of additional SP (Ops) Binoy Chongtham and his overall supervision.
The SP said that driver and another occupant of the vehicle have been detained for verification and identified the arrested duo as Lunkhojang Touthang (40) s/o Jamkhoson Touthang of T V Gamnomphai village, Tengnoupal district presently residing at T Monglen village, Chandel and Thangjamang Touthang (34) s/o Jamkholen Touthang of Moltuk village in Chandel district.
The seized items include 50 soap cases containing suspected heroin powder found concealed in a specially designed chamber under the Chassis of the vehicle.
On weighing, the suspected Heroin was found to be approximately 661 grams, he said.
The arrested persons along with the seized articles have been handed over to Kakching police station for further action, the SP said.
Meanwhile, troops of Keithelmanbi Battalion of IGAR (South) reportedly recovered 7.52 kg of opium approximately worth Rs 4.44 lakh in international market at Natjang in Kamjong district on June 26.In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that based on specific input, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police launched a joint operation and recovered 7.52 kg of opium concealed in plastic packets from a drug peddler at Natjang.
The recovered items along with the drug peddler have been handed over to Machi police station for further investigation.
A team of special commando unit, Khabeisoi, Irilbung police along with volunteers of United Youth Organisation also rounded up three individuals and recovered 11 vials containing heroin from them.
The three have been identified as Singamayum Imran Khan (22) son of Md Jakir Hussain of Urup Awang Leikai, Irengbam Kanta (29) son of Kesho of Chanam Sandrok and Waikhom Levis Singh (30) son of Angou Singh, also a resident of Chanam Sandrok.
As per police source, a team of special commando unit stationed at Khabeisoi, Irilbung police personnel led jointly by OC Subedar L Bebekananda Singh and SI Chingkhul Bonang along with volunteers of local organisations nabbed the three individuals from near Langdum High School.
The combined team of police and local organisations also recovered two two-wheelers, four mobile phones and 11 vials of heroin from the possession of the nabbed individuals, who have been subsequently handed over to Irilbung PS for further necessary action.
