CCpur, April 27 2025:
Two collard Scops owlets (Otus lettia) were rescued by environmental activist Anish Ahamad from Laitha Loukol in Kwakta area under Bishnupur district on Saturday evening.
The owlets were later handed over to staff members of Divisional Forest Office, Bishnupur at Range Forest Office, Moirang on the day itself.
Frequent wildfires and destruction of their natural habitat are said to be the main factor for the decline in wildlife population in Manipur, which in turn has disturbed the forest ecosystem.
Mention may be made that Anish Ahamad has rescued over 36 wildlife species and safely handed them over to the Forest Department since the past many years.
He is also proactively involved in raising awareness on various environmental issues and wildlife conservation in the North Eastern states as well as at national capital New Delhi, recently.
In recognition of his environmental and wildlife conservation activism, Government of Delhi's Department of Forest and Wildlife principal chief conservator of forests and wildlife presented Anish Ahamad a letter of appreciation along with receiving letter of appreciation from incumbent Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma.
