Imphal, October 20 2024:
The state government should comprehend the significance of the Manipur Land Revenue & Land Reforms (ML-RLR) Act 1960, and implement the said Act in the entire state, said Manipur People's Demo cratic Front chairman Sapam Samungou.
Advocating enforcement of the land law in the whole of Manipur's 22,327sq km area in a press meet held at Manipur Press Club, here, Sunday, Samungou opined that the Act promulgated only in specific areas demonstrates ignorance of leaders since 1957 till date.
He continued that prior to.
Manipur's merger to the union of India, the Manipur State Constitution Act 1947, was enacted and implemented.
Chapter 2 Article 9 (K) of the said Constitution clearly outlines guidelines on land administration and land revenue of a nation, state or union territory.
As such, he questioned why the ML-RLR Act enacted on October 21, 1972 has not been implemented in the whole of Manipur.
He further said that even if the representatives elected by the people are unaware of the Act, bureaucrats and officers can't be naive.
Instead of doing so, the governance style of "fearing the tiger, and fearing something of the tiger", will never bring longterm peace and stability in the state, he remarked.
