State native honoured with The Balipara Award

South Asia Bamboo Foundation founder & executive director and World Bamboo Organisation (WBO) former president Kamesh Salam has been honoured with the prestigious 'The Balipara Foundation Award' in recognition for his pioneering efforts in entitling the 'World Bamboo Day' and his numerous contributions for over three decades in the field of Bamboo.
The award was presented in a ceremony held at Independent University, Dhaka, Bangladesh on December 11 .
As per a release, Kamesh' work and continued consultation on capacity building, technology induction, monitoring, implementation and developing marketing strategies for cane and bamboo industries based on the needs and availability of local resources for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) remain of immense value to the worldwide view on the role and importance of bamboo in South and South-East Asia.
The award is an initiative of Balipara Foundation which was set up to celebrate the life and works of exceptional personalities and organisations in the Eastern Himalayan region towards nature conservation, livelihood, and com munity development, it added.
