Torch rally condemns Jiri killings

A torch rally was taken out Tuesday to condemn the brutal killing of six civilians, including three children, by armed Kuki militants after abduction in Borobekra, Jiribam, The rally which started from Keirao Litan Makhong and ended at Irilbung Thongkhong, was organised by All Keirao Makting Clubs' Coordinating Committee.
Speaking on the sidelines of the rally, committee general secretary, Jiaur Rahaman, condemned the abduction and killing of the three children and three women by armed Kuki militants.
He further decried the government s failure to resolve the ongoing crisis, which has been affecting the region for the last 18 years, as well as re-imposition of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), 1958 in the state.
He called for the perpetrators of the heinous crime to be brought to justice and demanded immediate repeal of AFSPA from the state.
Rahaman warned that the committee would launch intense protests, with the support of the public, if the government continues to remain silent on the issue.
Additionally, he pledged the committee's full support to all agitations launched by civil society organisations, clubs, and meira paibi groups.
