Khangabok protests closure of turning point

Thoubal, January 14 2023: A large number of Khangabok Higher Secondary School students and locals blocked the NH102 (Imphal-Moreh road) on Saturday opposing the closure of the turning point of the Highway in front of Khangabok High School late night on Friday despite repeated requests to the authority concerned for broadening the turning point.

Speaking to media persons, Khangabok Development and Students' Union (KDASU) president Thokchom Kiran Meitei informed that requests were made to Thoubal deputy commissioner, SP and the work agency GR Infra Project Limited for keeping a larger turning point at the said section of the NH for the convenience of Khangabok villagers and students and the authorities also assured of doing so.

However, in contrast to their assurances, workers of GR Infra Project Limited blocked the turning point around midnight of Friday, which they totally oppose, he asserted, while stressing that more than 10 schools are located in the area which is an education zone and if the authorities concerned do not heed to their demand for providing a passageway/turning point on the NH, then they will reach out to the central government official concerned and even the Prime Minister.

Later, the agitators were driven away from the protest site by large number of police personnel of Thoubal Police.

During the protest, the NH 102 remained blocked from 12 noon till 2 pm with commuters facing huge inconvenience in passing the highway.

Meanwhile, the road divider placed at Thoubal Houkha section of the NH 102 at around midnight of Friday was destroyed by the locals on Saturday.
