No party will get absolute majority: MPP

Imphal, January 14 2022: As no party is in a position to get absolute majority in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election MPP would be able to take part in the coalition government to be formed after the election and bring a change in Manipur, said Manipur People's Party (MPP).

Speaking at a reception function of forrner members of students' organisations and CSO leaders who joined the party held at MPP office, near Imphal Pologround on Friday, MPP president L Krishnadas expressed delight that many young leaders who shouldered immense responsibility for the state as functionaries of student bodies and civil society organisations have joined the party believing in regionalism.

Saving Manipur lies at the hands of emerging youth and hence youth must be pushed forward by framing concrete policy for them, he said and opined that there is no reason why should a regional party like MPP remain weak when regional parties are ruling West Bengal and southern states of India.

He also recounted that MPP took significant responsibility in attaining statehood in 1972 as also in inclusion of Manipuri language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.

MPP vice president Dr S Ibomcha also said that MPP formed governments in 1972, 1974 and 1980 and the present situation in Manipur necessitates a regional party to rule the state.

He also said that MPP would be part of the government to be formed after 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election and would be able to bring changes in the state.

MPP general secretary H Gitajen, who also attended the felicitation function, said that many more people who want to save Manipur would be joining MPP soon and some of these leaders would be elected in the upcoming election.

The felicitation function was also attended by MPP working president M Amutombi and party's Loumi Lup chairman Bele.

Those who joined MPP include former KSA members Irengbam Ango Mangang and Khaidem Johnson Meitei; Socialist Students' Union of Manipur members Th Pradip and Th Abdul Hassan; All Manipur Meitei Pangal Students' Union members Umar Bin, Hafiz Chohan, Aslam Khan and Md Abdul Mahan.
