Imphal, July 09 2024:
The Joint Non-Government Voluntary Organisation (JNGVO) submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, seeking correction of land jurisdiction of K Monnom village and dismantling the controversial bridge constructed over Imphal River in the village.
The bridge, located at CS Dag No 4093 at 5-Serou of Village No 94 of Waikhong sub-division in Kakching district as per JNGVO, has sparked significant public outcry.
In the memorandum, JNGVO asserted that K Monnom village, where the bridge is being constructed, falls within the revenue jurisdiction of Kakching district.
The government entrusted DC Chandel to address issue surrounding the controversial bridge, even though the area falls under the police jurisdiction of Kakching district.
On December 2, 2022, Sugnu SDC issued a notice to the village chief of K Monnom instructing removal of a signboard indicating Chandel district within seven days, the memorandum said.
JNGVO also enclosed the notice issued by SDC Sugnu.
JNGVO urged the Chief Minister to intervene, correct the jurisdictional errors, and dismantle the controversial bridge in the larger interest of the people.
