Safety of women at workplace stressed

A one day sensitisation programme on "Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013" was held on Monday at the Farmers' Training Hall of Directorate of Agriculture, Sanjenthong, here.
The programme was jointly organised by Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) and Directorate of Agriculture.
Addressing the gathering, MSCW chairperson Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang called upon all stakeholders to effectively prevent sexual harassment of women at workplace and prompt redressal measures.
Stressing the need for empowerment of women as they take a major role in the society, chairperson Thumlip said education and healthy lifestyles are essential for realising the goal of empowering women, who not only contribute 50 per cent of the total income generated but are also breadwinner of many families.
She also emphasised the importance for both man and woman to understand each other in sorting out any problem they faced.
"It is quite fortunate this very department is not facing any issues related with sexual harassment at workplace, and if it happens, then the complaint should be brought to the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC)," she maintained.
Further stating that educating and getting acquainted with their rights would help every woman enjoy equality and real meaning of empowerment, the chairperson exuded confidence that the sensitisation programme would shed light on various aspects, such as different forms of sexual harassment, procedures to handle complaint, etc.
"Understanding and addressing sexual harassment in the workplace is crucial for creating a safe environment for women and girls.
Let's reap the benefits of the programme; Please spread awareness to the public," she appealed.
During the technical session of the programme, advocate Thiyam Rajkishore Singh deliberated on 'The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013' .
MSCW member secretary W Phajatombi Devi, members Lourembam Dayabati and Sofia Mayon, and agriculture director Peter Salam attended the programme as the presidium members.
Interaction session between the experts and the participants was the highlight of programme.
