Imphal, September 01 2024:
The government of Manipur do not waste time in resorting to use of brute police force to unleash tear gas and baton charge or any excessive force when women organisations, student bodies and the people in general launch movements for protecting the territorial integrity of the state.
However, when it comes to the Kukis trying to disintegrate Manipur, why is the government maintaining silence, questioned Imagi Meira convenor Sujata.
In a press meet held at Manipur Press Club on Sunday afternoon, Sujata questioned why the government is allowing the Kukis, who were initially demanding separate administration and have now upgraded to demand unionterritory, to act without any restraint such as organising movements in Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and other Kuki-dominant areas to balkanise Manipur.
While wondering whether the ground reality testifies CM's earlier statements that the valley is under his control and the hills under union home minister Amit Shah, she stated that Imagi Meira had staged protests demanding protection of Manipur's territorial integrity and for disqualification and legal actions against the ten Kuki MLAs, who are trying to disintegrate Manipur.
However, an FIR was instead registered against Imagi Meira and its targeting members currently out on bail, she recounted.
Questioning how long the displaced people are supposed to stay in relief camps and when they would be able to return home, Imagi Meira had staged a protest.
However, what resulted was an FIR registered against it at Irilbung PS.
If any protest or movement is taken out in the valley, what awaits the people is either an FIR or excessive force from security forces.
But if any such movement is carried out in the hill areas especially in Kangpokpi or Churachandpur, the government becomes silent, Sujata remarked.
She continued that the same attitude was exhibited on Saturday, making one wonder if the state government approved the protest by Kukis as no action was taken up by the DCs concerned when anti-Manipur slogans were raised.
If Irilbung PS can register an FIR against Imagi Meira for seeking protection of Manipur's integrity, FIRs should be registered against the organisers of Saturday's rally which challenged the administration and integrity of Manipur, Sujata demanded.
