Imphal, April 27 2025:
The government has approved an allocation of Rs 6.30 crore for the 5th State Shirui Lily Festival 2025, scheduled to be held from May 20 to 24 in Ukhrul district, according to a report by Ukhrul Times.
The decision was made during an executive committee meeting chaired by chief secretary Prashant Kumar Singh on April 24.The meeting reviewed detailed programme proposals submitted by various sub-committees.
Although initial budget proposals totalling Rs 9.5 crore were submitted, the estimates were scaled down after careful examination, the report said.
In view of the limited timeframe, the executive committee decided to forgo the usual tendering process.
Instead, it opted to nominate firms and organisations with proven experience to carry out festival-related activities within the approved financial limits.
Ukhrul deputy commissioner Asish Das emphasised the importance of the festival, calling it a unique opportunity to showcase the region's rich cultural heritage to the world.
He urged the people to unite and work with enthusiasm to ensure the event's success, stating that the festival would highlight Ukhrul's vibrant culture and hospitality on the global tourism map.
The grand opening ceremony will be held at Shirui village, the popular ShiRock event at Bakshi Ground, and the cultural and closing ceremony at Ukhrul district headquarters, the report added.
The Shirui Lily Festival is making a comeback after a two-year hiatus due to the current crisis in the state that broke out on May 3, 2023 .
