Many show solidarity to man on indefinite hunger strike
Source: Chronicle News Service

Kangpokpi, December 25 2021: As the Christian community in the state celebrated Christmas on Saturday, the family of Kakai Singsit spent the day with prayer for justice to prevail upon three of their family members who are in jail for no fault on their part, even as the trio's uncle Kakai Singsit's indefinite hunger strike stir entered the fifth day.

Many individuals and civil society organisations of the district also visited the family to extend solidarity and joined Kakai Singsit for the day in his stir.

Intending candidate from Saitu assembly constituency, Dr Lamtinthang Haokip and his wife Regina also visited Kakai and his family to extend solidarity in their fight for justice.

Speaking to the media, Dr Lamtinthang Haokip pointed out that they are here because the government has failed to nab the real culprits who shot down B Gamnom villagers including a minor on October 12, but instead arrested three drug users who habitually loitered around Motbung area and detained them undemocratically and illegally at Sajiwa jail.

He also pointed out that in connection with the unlawful detention of the innocent trio, social activist Kakai Singsit has been on fast demanding justice to the three innocents since December 20.Dr Lamtinthang appealed to the state government to release the trio as their innocence has been proven with evidence.

He also appealed to all the people of Manipur to come forward and stand for justice, while urging CSOs of the state to be a watchdog for such undemocratic and unlawful acts upon innocent civilians in the state.

Kakai Singsit stated that he is little bit emotional today as he recalled the past Christmas time when they used to decorate and illuminate the house and enjoy the joyous occasion, but now he has decided to fight the injustice and is committed to his decision to fight for justice.

He claimed that the three innocent trio was made to forcefully confess their involvement in the B Gamnom firing which they are completely unaware of.

This is what pains him as they have to endure misery inside Sajiwa jail while their families have to even sacrifice the auspicious Christmas celebration for the crime which they are not involved and connected, he lamented.

Kakai continued that being from a poor family, they have sold everything they could to fight for justice, but their hope of getting justice seems to be vanishing as he feels that justice seems to be only for the high and mighty in the state of Manipur.

"I am both financially and morally down but as I said I am not going down without a fight, and I am happy to witness solidarity from many people and CSOs including ATSUM, TSA Sadar Hils, etc, which gives me new strength and hope in my fight," he said.

Kakai continued to wonder as to why the local MLA is yet to show solidarity to his family, while adding that he had committed to serve his people and assured of helping them when in trouble, but his commitment has become a mockery for their family now.

"I am physically weakening but my fight will go on", Kakai asserted, while adding that he has great hope on the people of Manipur and CSOs in the state that they will come forward for his cause in the larger interest of justice and humanity.

Thadou Students' Association Sadar Hills led by its president Tolminthang Misao and secretary Lalboi Lhouvum also joined Kakai Singsit on Saturday to show solidarity and stand for justice.
