One dies in road mishap in Noney

Noney, April 20 2025: An elderly man died on the spot following grievous injuries on his head and other body parts suffered in a road accident that occurred on Saturday around 6 pm.

The man was returning home alone from Awangkhul side after getting his vehicle repaired by a mechanic when the mishap occurred.

According to locals, the accident took place between Rengpang and Nungba along NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road) under Nungba police station, Noney district, when a Maruti Alto (MN05A-7428) plunged into a gorge approximately 200 feet below the highway.

It is suspected that the mishap was caused by over-speeding, causing the vehicle to skid off the road.

The body of the deceased was retrieved early this morning by villagers and police personnel, and later handed over to the family for performing the last rites.

The deceased has been identified as Chingkhiurei Gangmei (62), son of Gangmeiga Gangmei, of Tazeikaiphun (Keikru Naga) village under Nungba sub-division, Noney district.

He is survived by his wife, one son, and one daughter.
