Healthy living stressed at Fit India School Week celebration

The 5th edition of Fit India School Week Celebration-2023 was held at SK Ideal School compound, Ngairangbam, Imphal West on Wednesday.
The celebration was attended by Rajya Sabha MP & titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba and health & family welfare minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh as chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, MP Leishemba Sanajaoba expressed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a leader of a diverse country like India, who in-spite of having a busy schedule has been working hard at the micro level for the welfare of the people not only of India but also of the whole world.
The Fit India Movement was launched on August 29, 2019 by the PM.
Under this programme, Fit India School Week is being organised across the country, he added' .
The MP continued that the aim of launching the scheme is to make students who are attending schools, colleges, universities stay healthy and fit.
The launching of the programme by the PM is meant for the development of the student community.
He also mentioned that more than two lakh schools including SK Ideal School participated in the Fit India School Scheme so far.
Leishemba Sanajaoba advised the students to follow healthy habits, eat good food and pay interest in healthy ways of living, which is very much required for success in life.
He also assured of looking into the need and requirement of the school and to discuss with the authority concerned for upgrading the school.
On the other hand, minister Dr S Ranjan stated that after launching of the Chief Minister's School Fagathansi programme, the government took initiative of planting nursery trees within the SK Ideal School compound for preservation of the environment.
He also appreciated the activities taken up by the teachers and students for protecting and nurturing those planted trees for their proper growth.
While pointing out that cutting tree anywhere causes scarcity of water and environmental degradation, Dr Ranjan explained that saving a tree will produce enough oxygen for human being.
He also stressed the need to plant more trees for a healthy environment.
"All of us need to work together to put Manipur towards the path of progress," he exhorted.
The minister further appealed to the students to follow good discipline and pay respect to teachers, parents and elders.
Stating that abusing drugs is very dangerous for the society and the individual concerned, he conceded that only the government and police cannot solve the issue of drug problems.
"If anyone among us knows some youth who are accustomed to use drugs, let us all work together to help him/her to follow the right path again," he said and also urged all to work together for the development of the school and students.
The programme was also attended by SAI, Takyelpat regional director in-charge Lianminthang; Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Zone-I Sucheta Khumukcham and Education (S) Department Fit India nodal officer Dr LW Ananta as guests of honour.
SK Ideal School principal Tongbram Babudhon Singh, teaching and non-teaching staff, students, parents/guardians also attended the celebration.
