Konaithong village hosts Lamlai Festival

The Maring tribe's pre-harvest festival "Lamlai festival" was celebrated jointly by Konaitong Village Authority, Konaitong Napuiya Yinglam and Konaitong Youth Club at Konaitong village under Machi sub-division in Tengnoupal district on Tuesday.
The festival commenced at the residence of the village head with the traditional Khousab (war dance), performed as a procession throughout the village before ending at the starting point.
Speaking at the event, Konaitong village chief DK Moshil informed that Lamlai Festival holds great significance for the Maring tribe as the celebration not only pays tribute to the ancestors but also fosters unity among the villagers to clean the surroundings, including the drains, roads, and pathways leading into the village.
The Lamlai Festival marks the beginning of preparations for the harvest season.
Village chairman Ch Modul Maring also highlighted the importance of the Khousab (War Dance), explaining that it is performed at the conclusion of the festival to ward off negativity from the village and to invite prosperity and good fortune.
In addition to the war dance, other traditional dances were also showcased at the festival to highlight the rich cultural heritage of the Maring tribe.
