BAAL opposes transfer of Bishnupur DC

Bishnupur, May 08 2025: Bishnupur Akoiba Apunba Lup (BAAL) has denounced the transfer of Bishnupur DC Lourembam Bikram, even as the President's Rule regime has failed to restore free movement and resolve the ongoing crisis in the state.

The Lup opined that need of the hour is to step up efforts to facilitate return of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their homes.

In a press meet held at BAAL's office on Thursday, Lup president L Devachand said that since the conflict broke out on May 2, 2023, Bishnupur district has been one of the epicentres.

Amid the trying times, steps were taken up to prevent the situation from going out of control in the district with the DC leading from the front, said the president while acknowledging that the central and state governments too accorded importance in facilitating the IDPs return to their homes.

According to Devachand, the transfer order issued at such a juncture is a humiliation to the IDPs and the people of the district.

The BAAL leader then urged the Governor and chief secretary to reconsider their decision and allow DC Bikram to serve in Bishnupur district.
