Joint Coordinating Committee of ELYSA, PYC Phouden & WMDA Wangkhem Muslim has condemned alleged attempt to abduct a woman from her Wangkhem Muslim village home under Yairipok police station by armed persons in civvies around 2:30 pm Wednesday.
According to the Committee, the perpetrators aborted their plan to abduct the woman identified as Mumtaz (31), wife of Firoj Khan of Wangkhem Muslim and fled the scene after some locals chased them.
Addressing the media on Thursday, Committee's general secretary Md Yasser noted that the armed persons' attempt to abduct the woman has caused fear and panic among the villagers.
While recalling that the joint committee had earlier announced through the media that anyone having any issue with villagers of Wangkhem Muslim, Phouden Maning and Phouden Mamang should consult with the committee so to iron out the differences, and to avert unwanted incidents amid the unrest situation in the state, Yasser cautioned of stringent action as and when unwanted incidents occur in the village.
Meanwhile, Mumtaz disclosed that on Wednesday as she resting on her bed, an unknown woman accompanied by some armed persons told her to follow them to Phouden.
On being enquired about their identities and reason for their insistence, the armed intruders tried to shove her into their vehicle, she said, adding that the miscreants fled as her resistance and frantic calls alerted some locals.
It is informed that a complaint report has been registered at Yairipok police station on the incident.
