Imphal, February 03 2022: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Thursday named six candidates for the two-phase 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election scheduled on February 27 and March 3.NCP national general secretary cum spokesperson Narendra Verma officially announced names of party's candidates for six assembly constituencies during a press conference held at party's state unit office, Ningthem Pukhri Mapal here on Thursday.

Khuraijam Ratan for Khurai AC, Punam Rani Wangkhem for Kshetrigao AC, Md Islamuddin Khan (MI Khan) for Keirao AC, Khoirom Binarani Devi for Konthoujam AC, Oinam Haridas for Wangkhem AC and Dr George T Haokip for Saikot (ST) AC have been named to contest the election under party's ticket, stated Narendra Verma.

He also told media persons that the party has no plan to field candidates in all the assembly constituencies of Manipur but preparing to field 5-10 candidates and Thursday's list is the first list.

Many aspiring candidates are joining NCP but the party would announce second list of candidates only after strict scrutiny, he added.

According to Narendra Verma, BJP distorted democratic norms in the country on several occasions and the saffron party forcibly formed the government though Congress emerged as the single largest party in the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly election held in 2017.People of the country are witnesses to BJP's distortion and violation of democratic norms, he said and maintained that the upcoming election is important and people need to teach BJP a fitting lesson.

Manipur has regressed during the five years rule of BJP and women are being compelled to live in a terrible situation, he claimed, while adding that BJP government is fooling the people and youth are'suffering from joblessness.

About party's objective, Narendra Verma said that NCP is committed to bringing speedy development and solve unemployment problem.

Apart from this, the party's main objective is to provide security to women and weaker sections.

Meanwhile, Manipur Unit of Shiv Sena has announced names of four more candidates on Thursday taking the total number of its candidates for the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election to 12.The four new candidates are RK Suraj for Yaiskul, Phuritsangbam Shyamo for Lamsang, RK Bimolchandra for Kumbi and Konsam Michael for Thoubal assembly constituencies.

Felicitating the candidates at the party office here on Thursday, Shiv Sena state president M Tombi said that no political parties will win absolute majority in the upcoming election.

Expressing confidence that the party will have a strong representation in the state assembly, he said that the party will play major role in the formation of the next government.

He then slammed the government for starting recruitment drives just before every election and keeping them incomplete, which has become a tradition.

Such failed policies of the government could mislead many youths, he said.

He then assured of taking up the matter of reclaiming Kabaw Valley if the party comes to power.

He also urged the government to fully implement the Inner Line Permit System in order to make the legislation an effective one to protect the indigenous people of the state.

Tombi also accused Jiribam MLA Asab Uddin of having nexus with Amra Bangali, the organisation behind the petition against ILPS.
