Code of Conduct for college polls issued

Imphal, October 02 2022: The Monitoring Cell of College Students' Union Election 2022-23 on Sunday issued the Code of Conduct for the upcoming election and appealed to the respective College Election Committees, students and the people of the state to extend their cooperation in this regard.

According to a press release issued by Cell convenor Nameirakpam Edison Meitei, the 15-point Code of Conduct will take effect from October 3.As per the Code of Conduct, candidates are prohibited from carrying out any campaigns inside and outside the college campus, except for pasting an A3 poster on their respective college campus board to help students identify them.

Distribution of any card, poster, exam routine, etc., intended to impress the student voters is strictly prohibited.

Candidates are also barred from visiting the homes of voters or picking them up on voting day.

Any vote-related feast, tea party, distribution of sweets or food items is banned.

Candidates will have open debate and discussion to allow voters to elect the most capable representative and conduct of all study tour, picnic, cinema or charity show is temporarily halted till the end of the polls.

Use of any illegal substances and intoxicants are banned in and outside the college campus during election campaign.

Students from another college are prohibited from entering the campus of another college campus except for valid official reasons not related to the election.

No gifting of cash or items is allowed and all candidates along with other students should refrain from poll violence.

The written declaration of candidates representing only one student body will be accepted while those representing multiple student bodies would not be accepted.

No member of the Monitoring Cell or from the different student organisations are allowed to be candidate, inner agent, proposer, seconder and counting agent.

Students cannot spend the night at offices of student organisations during the election period.

Any candidate found violating the said code of conduct will have their candidacy disqualified and those found so after winning the polls will have to resign.

In addition, the Covid-19 protocols must strictly be adhered to and anyone not wearing facemask will not be allowed to vote.

The Monitoring Cell then appealed to all concerned to extend their cooperation in this regard and urged for contacting the Cell if anyone is found violating the Code of Conduct.
