Imphal, July 02 2021:
MLA Karam Shyam said he will never use the pandemic and humanitarian aid for political gains.
Karam Shyam said this while attending the launch of relief items distribution to every household in Langthabal AC today at Lilong Chajing Mairenkhong Community Hall.
He added that he had been in the field of social work since an early age of 15 years and there has been no looking back since, but he will never use social work for political gains, social works are done for the welfare of the people purely on humanitarian ground, he added.
Setting up of Quarantine Centre and in providing the need of such facilities since the beginning of the pandemic, 70 lakh from Local Area Development Fund (LADF) have been used in addition to contribution from personal saving and the donations from the public in the form of money and in kinds, he added.
Last year as he was a Minister, he had given special attention to Langthabal AC and those things were not publicised in the media.
These had raised many questions on where the local representative was during the pandemic.
Karam Shyam added that during the second wave of the pandemic many initiatives have been taken up in the constituency including opening of Community Home Isolation Centre (CHIC) and providing relief materials to more than 383 families inside containment zones.
But as the mere distribution of relief materials to only families inside containment zones was not enough with many families who have been out of work due to the pandemic were left out, he has decided to distribute relief materials to every family in the constituency covering more than 12,000 families altogether.
He also appealed the youths of the constituency to take an important role in the fight against the pandemic.
He added that for the AC, there are two permanent vaccination centres at PHC Kakwa and PHC Samurou and there are also eight mobile vaccination centres and urged the public to get tested if they have any doubt and get vaccinated at the earliest.
After the completion of distribution of the relief materials to every household, the focus will be on agricultural activities.
Timely focus on irrigation facilities had resulted in good production last year, he added.
Karam Shyam added that he had also inspected the condition of Imphal Barrage and it was unfortunate that two of barrage gate was out of order and the other two were also not functioning properly, however the officials of the barrage gave assurance that the two gates of the barrage will be restored to a working condition very soon.
