Imphal, September 27 2024:
National Health Mission state mission director Dr M Dinesh has urged for administering timely medications to children during the government's deworming programme so as to prevent worm infections, which affects one out of every four children.
Briefing media persons at the conference hall of State Health Society NHM, Lamphelpat on Friday, Dr Dinesh informed that during the second phase of administering deworming medication, which began from September 24 and continue till October 4, target has been set to deworm around 9.350 lakh children.
He then urged parents/guardians to get their children between the ages of 1 to 19 years of age dewormed during this period.
State nodal officer Dr A Slyvia informed that children between the ages of 1-2 years are given half the 400mg Albendanzol table, while those above 2 years are given the complete tablet.
The tablet is more effective when chewed instead swallowing whole.
However, for young children, the tablets can be crushed and fed in powdery form.
The reactions including stomach pain that some children develop administration of the medicine is not related to the medication itself but the level of worm infection.
Nonetheless, an adverse even management team has been formed to deal with such a situation, she said, and urged all to maintain hygiene to prevent worm infections amongst children.
