Infrastructure deficit galore in hill areas: AMDDA president
Source: Chronicle News Service

Kangpokpi, September 24 2022: After opening its branch at Senapati, All Manipur Dalit Development Association (AMDDA), Manipur inaugurated its Kangpokpi branch on Saturday at Kangpokpi district headquarters.

During the inaugural function of the branch office at Nanglhun Veng, here, AMDDA president Dr TM Rajen Ayengba said that the association is for the welfare and development of the poor and deprived people from both the hills and valley districts in the state.

He said that it will be wrong to claim that there is no Dalit in most parts of the state as there are still many in the hills deprived of health care facilities, education, roads and many other important basic requirements.

Notably, when the BJP government has been making a tall claim of inclusive and equal growth and development in the state, the AMDDA president pointed out that no proper roads, health care facilities, or schools were available in many parts of the remote hill areas, depriving the innocent people of their basic rights and requirements.

He also said that many people in the remote hill areas could not even afford their medical treatment, children's education, etc., and asked where Dalit development funds had all gone.

Rajen continued that in the north eastern states like Meghalaya and Sikkim, there are paved roads even in the remotest part providing all the basic rights and necessities even to the poorest of the poor while wondering as to why such facilities could not be provided in the hill districts of Manipur.

"Therefore, the time has come for us to make our common voice loud and clear for our basic rights and necessities, and for that matter, we have begun setting up AMDDA branches in Senapati and Kangpokpi and it will be set up in all other hill districts of the state as well to fight and address our deprived rights and requirements", he added.

The inaugural ceremony of the Kangpokpi branch office was held with Dr TM Rajen Ayengba, as chief guest while Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi district president Jamsei Haokip and Kangpokpi Town Committee chairman Angam Leivon were respectively guest of honour and functional president.

AMDDA chief controllers N Ibouchou Singh and Abung Tangkhul, advisors Moirangthem Sarojini and Khwairakpam Diya, all district presidents of AMDDA, KSO Sadar Hills, KWWO, KYU, and KTC members attended as special guests.

Earlier, Rev Happy Haokip, pastor KBC Centre Church Kangpokpi, dedicated the office in the presence of all guests and dignitaries.

AMDDA Kangpokpi president Demminthang after delivering his keynote address presented gifts and a traditional shawl to the guests, special guests and district presidents of AMDDA.

He also handed over the appointment letter of AMDDA Kangpokpi branch executives through Dr TM Rajen Ayengba.

The executives of AMDDA Kangpokpi branch are Demminthang Haokip (president), Ngamgang bou Chawang (vice president), S Lunminthang Haokip (general secretary), Champion Tingnamai (joint secretary), Thanggin Kipgen treasurer), Thangrijoy Baite, Hopson Mao, Lamgouthang Chongloi (executives), Thounaojam Chakradhara (legal advisor), Thangkholal Haokip and Letginthang Haokip (advisors).

President of Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi district, chairman of Kangpokpi Town Committee and other officials from AMDDA also spoke on the occasion.
