Imphal, April 23 2024:
All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) in association with Thangmeiband United Club (TUC) offered tributes to the patriots of Manipur, who made supreme sacrifices while fighting the British soldiers, on the occasion of Khongjom Day, at Cheiraoching, Thangmeiband on Tuesday.
According to a statement, AMUCO president Nando Luwang, while speaking on the occasion, reminded the government leaders that all those who dared to challenge Manipur in its long years of history paid a heavy price for their misadventures.
Before suffering defeat to the British, brave warriors of Manipur not only defended the once sovereign nation from enemies but also expanded its territory significantly.
The Manipuri forefathers had high moral and code of conduct, which made them invincible against bigger nations back then.
Moreover, the defeat at the hands of Awas and subsequent Awa occupation for seven years, as well as the defeat to the British imperialists were fallout of disunity and betrayal within members of the royal family in their race for power.
These events should be the ultimate lesson for every Manipuri in order to keep the state strong and united, he stressed.
Nanda also advised those helming the affairs presently that it was the leaders who led the Manipuri army to numerous victories with their high moral, integrity and humility.
Unfortunately, the state is witnessing a new low in the race for power and degradation of morality in the society.
Even though Manipur suffered defeat to Awas and British, the patriots displayed strong sense of unity and it was the reason why the present generation is paying them respect for their sacrifices, he said.
Expressing concern over the prevailing situation in the society, Nando Luwang said termed as disheartening to see people criticising the brave warriors of today, who have been defending the state against the aggression.
It would not be right to forget their selfless acts while criticising trivial mistakes they commit, he said, while urging all for working to strengthen the unity and integrity so as to prevail over the present crisis, the statement added.
It also informed that leaders of different CSOs, Meira Paibi groups and student bodies, as well as common people participated in the event and paid tributes to the patriots.
