Notice issued to remove encroachments

Imphal, August 19 2024: The Public Works Department (PWD) issued a notification on Monday directing removal of unauthorised structures and encroachments from along several key roads in Imphal.

The notification, issued by PWD Imphal West Division executive engineer highlighted concerns regarding encroachments along the Right of Way (ROW) on the Watham Leirak to Lairenhanjaba Leirak route via Muchi Khul Western Gate, as well as the Khoyathong-Lamphelpat road up to Polem Leikai.

It highlighted the presence of unauthorised structures, including extended shops, railings, balconies, verandahs, stairs, and ramps, as well as stacking of construction materials and debris along the roadsides and drains causing significant inconvenience to commuters and obstructing the smooth flow of traffic.

The department also announced plans to commence construction of drains along the roads as part of a government initiative to improve infrastructure in the area.

To facilitate timely and effective execution of these works, PWD has instructed all parties concerned to clear or remove any illegal encroachments within seven days of the notification.

Failure to comply with this directive may result in further action by the authorities to ensure the smooth progress of the construction work, which is being undertaken in the larger interest of the public, the notification added.
