283rd 'Puwarigi Amamba Numit' observed

Puya Mei Thakhibagi Apunba Ningsing Lup (PUMANIL) on Wednesday observed the 283rd anniversary of "Puwarigi Amamba Numit" at Samurou Naorem Chaprou.
The observation will continue for one month to remember the day when Meitei Puyas (sacred ancient writings) were burnt down on October 5, 1732 .
The function was attended by titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba as chief guest and chairman of PUMANIL Lainingba Mangi as the president.
President of ACOAM-Lup Kangleipak, Ksh Somorendro, president of KANGLAMEI, Y Leirik Leima, general secretary of KIL Memcha and chief advisor of CLK, A Langdon Leima, founder of Little Master English Hr Sec School, Samurou M Thoiba, president of Panthoibi Sindam Sanglen, Waheng Khuman and L Dhananjoy Mangang attended as guests of honour.
Speaking at the function, Leishemba Sanajaoba said that the identity, religion, culture and tradition of Manipur were almost completely spoilt when priceless Puyas of the state were burnt down.
Since then an emotional estrangement heralded among the indigenous communities of Manipur, the titular king said.
Now communities are seeing each other as outsiders in their own homeland Manipur and at such a crucial juncture, observation of "Puwarigi Amamba Numit" is relevant since it will lend a hand in reuniting the different communities in Manipur, said Leishemba Sanajaoba.
