PPCM entrusts MMO to hold Miss Manipur contest

Imphal, July 14 2022: Miss Manipur Organisation (MMO) can organise the Miss Manipur contest for this year, stated Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur (PPCM).

Addressing a press meet organised with representatives of State Level Miss Manipur Committee and MMO at PPCM's office, Wahengbam Leikai here on Thursday, PPCM convenor Maibam Biseshor said that PPCM along with 27 other like-minded organisations has been working together to ensure the Miss Manipur contest is held while keeping the traditions and art and culture of the state in mind.

Any organiser of a beauty pageant should ensure that the event promotes the rich art, culture, traditional wear and customs of the state, in addition to allowing contestants from any part of the state to take part.

Furthermore, there should be only one organiser and no foreign and scandalous attires/outfits should be permitted at any cost.

If anyone violates the rules and regulations, then the organiser would be held responsible for all the consequences, he cautioned.

The convenor continued that a state-wide mass awareness will be conducted prior to the event.

Juries for the contest should be appointed from those who are thoroughly knowledgeable and well aware of judging such events, and not from connections or government leaders.

The title of Miss Manipur should be awarded to the contestant who is well-versed about the state's history and its traditional costumes, and have the ability to represent the state at the international level.

However, if the event is organised as a form of earning profits, or results in fraction and other issues, the organiser will be held responsible.

The advisory committee will form an inquiry committee to investigate the matter and the decision taken by the latter will be final, Biseshor informed.

Miss Manipur Organisation director Halley Laithangbam, who also attended the press meet, said that the Miss Manipur contest will likely be held on September 11.Anyone interested can participate in the contest, provided they are eligible.

The winner of the Miss Manipur title will then take part in the Miss North East contest, he added.
