Kuki militants attack, SFs blockade VVs

Imphal, June 12 2024:
Kuki militants fired several rounds including bombs towards Itham Moirangpurel village of Imphal East district early Wednesday morning while central forces deployed or stationed in the area put up road blocks to prevent movement of village volunteers (VVs) who tried to defend the said village.
According to reports, Kuki militants fired several rounds and bombs towards the Meetei village from the hill range near Itham Moirangpurel forcing the villagers to flee to safer locations as some village volunteers retaliated to counter the attack.
On receiving news of the gunfire, teams of Imphal East district police arrived and took up necessary security measures to prevent any injuries or fatalities while village volunteers from different locations attempted to join the fight but were prevented from entering by teams of central forces.
The security forces also made bid to arrest some of the volunteers.
However, Meira Paibi members in large number from the area soon converged and engaged the central forces in a heated exchange of words.
Meanwhile, the attack lasted till late afternoon and both the village volunteers and state forces in the area continued to exchange in heavy gunfire with the Kuki militants.
However, there is no report of any injury or fatality.
