Imphal, July 09 2024:
The Federation of Indigenous People's Democratic Movement (FIDAM) will honour mothers who believe in Sanamahi religion and have highest number of children on the occasion of World Indigenous Day 2024, which falls on August 9 .
In a statement, FIDAM expressed concern about minor communities worldwide that have been assimilated by major communities, losing their identity beyond recognition.
The Meetei community also faces a similar threat of assimilation under larger communities, risking extinction.
Despite its small size, Manipur is home to diverse communities each with its own language, culture, and traditions.
According to the 2011 census, Manipur's population was recorded at 2,855,794, which increased to 3,640,000 in the 2023 census.
Compared to India, Manipur has a significantly lower growth rate, making it unwise to adopt India's family planning policies.
It is necessary for Meetei mothers to bear at least 4 to 5 children to ensure survival of the Meetei population.
Those interested in participating in the competition may collect application forms from the FIDAM office in Wahengbam Leikai or contact the mobile numbers 9774437390, 8119073501, or 9362333138 for further information, added the statement.
