Dr Santa first in NE to head two AIIMS institutes

Professor Dr Ahanthem Santa Singh - who is the executive director.of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Mangalagiri - has been assigned additional responsibilities as the executive director of AIIMS Hyderabad, making him the first from northeast India to hold the position of executive director of two AIIMS institutions coevally.
According to an order issued by the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), professor Dr Santa, executive director post of AIIMS Mangalagiri, has been given the additional charge of the executive director of AIIMS Hyderabad.
He assumed the post and started duty effective Thursday.
An alumnus of JIPMER, Pondicherry, Dr Santa earned his MBBS in 1985, followed by an MD in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1990.He later achieved a DNB in 1991 and received a Fellowship from the Indian Academy of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
His career spans over two decades of leadership roles, including his tenure as Director of RIMS, Imphal (2017-2022), where he elevated the institute to the top 50 medical institutions in India as per NIRF rankings for four consecutive years.
Dr Ahanthem Santa has also held pivotal roles at NEI-GRIHMS, Shillong, serving as director (2011-2012) and then as dean and principal (2010-2018).During his tenure, he introduced innovative teaching practices and enhanced both hospital and academic operations.
His contributions also extend to national platforms, having served as a Governing Body member at JIPMER and a Think Tank member for the National Health System Resource Centre under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Recognised for his excellence, Dr Santa Singh was honoured as ope of the 20 Best Teachers in Obstetrics and Gynaecology by FOGSI in 2021 and has received multiple awards, including the Leadership Summit Excellence Award and Most Valuable Resource Person (MVRP) recognition by IIM, Shillong.
