Sit-in denounces abduction of man

A sit-in protest was staged on Monday at the Sangaiprou Mamang Gram Panchayat of Konjehg Leikai on Monday to denounce the abduction of one Akoijam Angou (57) of Thoubal but presently residing in a rented quarter at Haobam Marak Chingtham Leikai on September 30.Angou, a tenant RK Sanamacha, reportedly left home to pick up his daughter from a tuition centre but abducted by unknown individuals.
A case has been registered at Imphal police station in connection with the abduction.
Demanding safe release of Angou and to clarify reason for his abduction, a sit-in protest was organised by meira paibi groups of Haobam Marak Chingtham Leikai and Konjeng Langpoklakpam Leikai at the Panchayat Ghar on Monday.
According to Angou's wife Kiran, attempts were made to contact her husband as he did not return hours after leaving the home and his phone remained in switch-off mode: Moreover, it came to light that he was nowhere near the tuition centre, she said along with informing that frantic search led to inputs from meira paibis of the Uripok that unknown persons in a black Bolero vehicle had whisked away a man, and a vehicle found abandoned at the spot of abduction in Uripok area.
On being told that a police team recovered the vehicle, Kiran said she went to Imphal Police Station, where it was confirmed that the abandoned vehicle was the same her husband had driven to pick up their daughter.
She then urged those involved in the abduction to clarify reason for the same and to release him safely.
Sit-in protest was also staged at.
Thoubal Awang Leikai community hall by family members of the abducted man and locals demanding public clarification on reason for his abduction and his safe release.
Angou's mother Akoijam Sanahanbi appealed to the abductors to release her son considering the fate of his two young daughters.
It has been eight days since he was abducted, she said.
Thoubal Awang Leikai Meira Paibi leader Budhimati demanded the reason behind abduction of Akoijam Angou and decried the lack of communication from his abductor even after eight days since he was taken.
She urged the abductors to release him on humanitarian ground while cautioning of launching intense forms of agitation.
