Girl molested; mob destroys house of accused

In a shocking incident, an 11-year-old girl from Heirok, Thoubal district, studying in Class VI was allegedly molested by a 31-year-old man.
Meanwhile, enraged people of victim's locality on Monday destroyed the house of the accused person, who has been arrested by police.
On Monday morning, an enraged mob began demolishing the residence of the accused even as a team of Heirok PS led by the OC arrived at the scene and tried to take the mob under control.
Additional teams of Thoubal District Police including women personnel descended on the scene and took the situation under control at around 10.30 am.
Later, Heirok Development Club (HDC) convened an emergency public meeting and adopted a resolution to banish the perpetrator from the locality.
The accused has been identified as Laishram Chinglenkhomba (31) s/o Laishram Ningthou of Heirok Part-III Ningthoujam Leirak, Thoubal district.
He is married with two kids (a son and a daughter) .
In addition to having a chicken meat shop at the entrance to his locality, he is also working as a Special Police Officer (SPO) in Heirok, attached to Heirok PS currently.
According to the girl's family, Chinglenkhomba had been molesting the girl for a long time by manipulating her while her elders were not around, as revealed by the girl.
On December 3, he molested the girl again when a music programme was being held in the locality, but was caught by family members.
A complaint had already been filed at the police, when the people from the victim's locality turned up to destroy Chinglenkhomba's house.
The family further said that they suspected Chinglenkhomba's behaviour towards the girl previously and had visited him at his house, warning him to stay away from her.
At the time, Chinglenkhomba's family accused the girl's family of trying to extort money from them.
On the other hand, members of Childline Thoubal picked up the victim for medical examination on Monday morning and afterwards, took her to a suitable welfare home.
