Public meet calls for saving Irum river

As part of a campaign to preserve the Irum river, a public meeting of Kakching and Irengband denizens was held at central public hall of Yumbi Macha High School, Kakching on Sunday with School's retired headmaster Pukhrambam Chaoba Meitei and Committee for Peace and Social Harmony, Kakching chairman Yengkhom Bhagyachandra Singh as the presidium members.
In sync with speakers stressing the urgent need to preserve the Irum river as a water body, the meet resolved to constitute a Working Committee on Rejuvenation of Irum Turel, Kakching which was actually formed on December 28, 2024 and to support its works to protect and develop Irum river, dredging of the river underway since December 27, 2024, appeal to authorities concerned not to entertain objection raised against the said campaign from any quarters and to observe International Wetlands Day on February 2 .
