Covid cases may dip by Mar: Dr Rajo

Imphal, February 25 2022: The number of Covid cases in the state may go down significantly by first week of March, Health Services director Dr K Rajo has stated.

Briefing media persons on Friday, Dr Rajo said that Manipur has faced three waves of Covid-19 pandemic, with the third wave; hitting the state mid-January this year.

In January, the positivity rate was at 20.8 per cent but dropped to 3.8 per cent in February.

Presently, there are 563 active cases with 213 patients in isolation and the recovery rate is 98.05 per cent.

The state now has adequate manpower, equipment, testing kit, ambulance, etc., for any emergency situation, he said and urged the people to adhere to the Covid-19 SOP when coming out to cast their votes in the upcoming polls.

He further said that the health department has taken up all the necessary measures in connection with the election and as such, appealed to the people to get fully vaccinated and not to take the pandemic lightly.

Dr Rajo then informed that around 4951 samples underwent genome sequencing, of which the results for 3340 samples have been received.

Among these, 358 omicron cases were detected, but all have recovered.

In January, 44 deaths were reported, most of which were related to co morbidities and incomplete vaccination.

The director continued that a person with weak immunity and having no co morbidity, can still die from the virus even if they are fully vaccinated.

The drop in cases ahead of the polls is due to the people strictly observing the protocols and getting vaccinated, he remarked and reiterated his appeal to the people to get vaccinated at the earliest.
