Imphal, May 21 2024:
Observing that there are multiple reports of some individuals collecting money from beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) as fee for providing LPG connections, LPG agencies have drawn attention of the government authority to look into the matter and take up necessary actions.
Addressing a joint press conference of proprietors and managers of LPG agencies in the valley area at Manipur Press Club, here, on Tuesday, Thoubal-based Athokpam Indane Gas proprietor Okram Budhi said that they have come across complaints from a relief camp at Leimaram village regarding non-provision of LPG connections under PMUY even after paying the registration fee.
Clarifying on the matter, he said, that PMUY introduced in 2016 was implemented in the state since 2017 .
Under the scheme, LPG connections are provided to families Below Poverty Line (BPL) free of cost.
Unfortunately, there are reports of third parties collecting registration fees from potential beneficiaries, which has tarnished the image of the distribution agencies.
The agencies do not charge a single paisa from the PMUY beneficiaries for providing LPG connections but the acts of some middlemen have misled the public, he said while urging the government authority to look into the matter and take up necessaryactions.
The proprietor also advised the public to be aware about the guidelines of the scheme and most importantly the fact that they do not need to pay a single paisa to get LPG connections under PMUY.
