Bishnupur, November 19 2024:
A public meeting organised by Ngaikhong Siphai Khunai Semgat Lup and Apunba Meira Paibi Lup Ngaikhong Siphai resolved to demand restoration of Manipur's pre-merger status.
The meeting held at Ngaikhong Siphai community hall on Sunday was marked by the attendees appending their signatures in blood, and calling on people across the state to follow suit.
The public meeting was attended by Semgat Lup president S Bimol Singh and secretary H Romen Singh, Meira Paibi Lup president Th Subita Devi and secretary Th Sumila Devi, and members of various clubs and organisations of Ngaikhong Siphai.
In his address, Semgat Lup advisor S Gourachandra expressed that there is no meaning of the centre's 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign in Manipur when children cannot be protected, apparently referring to the abduction and killing of three children, including two girls, in Jiribam district.
While asserting that the people can no longer tolerate government of India's agenda to suppress the Meetei community, he reasoned that the public meeting was convened to demand the restoration of Manipur's pre-merger status, as time has come for the people to safeguard own interests and protect the territorial integrity.
Gourachandra also urged all the indigenous communities to support the resolution.
